Job Description

Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Commercial HVAC Service Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. The role focuses on delivering reliable service to commercial customers, performing diagnostics and preventative maintenance, and ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently and to code. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical aptitude, diagnostic skills and customer-focused service experience in commercial environments.

Key ResponsibilitiesRespond to service calls for commercial HVAC systems, including emergency and after-hours requests as neededDiagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical and control system problems in commercial HVAC equipment (rooftop units, chillers, boilers, air handlers, VAV boxes, etc.)Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and system tune-ups to maintain efficiency and extend equipment lifeDocument work performed, maintain accurate service records, complete service reports and update work orders in the company systemOrder, track and install replacement parts and components; maintain inventory of commonly used parts and toolsPerform start-ups, shutdowns and system performance testing; calibrate controls and adjust systems for optimal performanceFollow safety procedures, maintain a clean worksite and ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations and company policiesCommunicate clearly with customers and site personnel; explain issues, recommended repairs and cost estimates in a professional mannerCollaborate with other technicians, project managers and service coordinators to support larger repairs and retrofitsProvide training and mentorship to junior technicians and apprentices when applicableQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; technical trade school or HVAC certification preferredMinimum 3 years of commercial HVAC service experience (rooftop units, chillers, boilers, air handlers, controls)Strong troubleshooting and diagnostics skills across mechanical, electrical and control systemsEPA Type II or universal 608 certification (or willingness to obtain) and familiarity with refrigerants and recovery proceduresProven experience performing preventative maintenance and commercial HVAC repairsWorking knowledge of pneumatic and electronic controls, wiring diagrams and system schematicsValid drivers license, reliable transportation and ability to travel to customer sitesAbility to lift up to 50 lbs, work from ladders and scaffolding, and perform physical tasks in variable conditionsExcellent customer service skills, professional communication and the ability to document work clearlyProficiency with mobile devices and service management software is a plus
Preferred:
additional certifications (NATE, OSHA 10/30), mechanical aptitude, experience with energy efficiency upgrades and preventative maintenance programs
