Job Title:
Utility Technician (CUB Utilities Technician) Job Description This full-time, direct placement role focuses on the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical utilities within a CUB building that supplies power and services to plant production lines. The Utility Technician maintains and troubleshoots industrial HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, osmosis systems, large compressors, and related mechanical and electrical equipment. This position combines hands-on maintenance, problem-solving, and a strong commitment to safety in a demanding industrial environment. Responsibilities Conduct hourly inspections of all equipment within the CUB building to verify safe, proper, and efficient operation. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, osmosis systems, and large compressors. Perform mechanical repairs and adjustments on a wide range of industrial equipment to minimize downtime and maintain reliability. Carry out basic electrical work, including troubleshooting electrical issues and performing panel wiring tasks as needed. Use a root cause mindset to identify underlying issues, implement long-term corrective actions, and prevent recurring equipment failures. Monitor and support systems operating in high-heat conditions, with equipment fluids reaching temperatures up to 500 degrees, ensuring safe and stable operation. Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical, plumbing, and utility systems to extend equipment life and reduce unplanned outages. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete maintenance, installation, and repair tasks. Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose issues and perform accurate repairs. Support chilled water system operations, including using tools such as chilled water system analysis tools (CWSAT) where applicable. Assist with building and facilities maintenance, including plumbing, facility maintenance, and general building upkeep within the CUB and related areas. Work independently to prioritize tasks, respond to equipment issues, and ensure continuous support for plant operations. Adhere to all safety guidelines, procedures, and protocols while working in a high-heat, physically demanding, and sometimes dirty environment. Perform physically intensive labor, including lifting, carrying, and working on or around heavy industrial equipment and machinery. Work rotating day and night shifts on a 12-hour, 2-2-3 schedule, including weekends and holidays as required to support continuous operations. Essential Skills Strong mechanical skills with hands-on experience working on industrial HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, osmosis systems, and compressors. Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting in an industrial or facilities maintenance environment. Basic electrical knowledge, including the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and perform limited electrical work such as panel wiring. Experience with facilities and building maintenance, including plumbing, facility maintenance, and general building systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents related to mechanical and electrical systems. Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for maintenance, installation, and repair tasks. Strong troubleshooting skills with a root cause mindset focused on long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage priorities in a fast-paced industrial setting. Strong safety awareness and a proven commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for self and others. Comfort working in hot, physically demanding, and dirty conditions around high-temperature equipment and fluids. Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing for long periods, climbing, bending, and handling heavy equipment. Ability and willingness to work rotating 12-hour shifts on a 2-2-3 schedule, including both day and night shifts. Prior experience in industrial maintenance, utilities, or a related field (preferred but not strictly required). Ownership of or ability to obtain steel-toed boots and willingness to wear them at all times in designated areas. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with chilled water systems and familiarity with chilled water system analysis tools (such as CWSAT). Background in boiler maintenance, including inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of boiler systems. Knowledge of osmosis systems and related water treatment equipment used in industrial environments. Hands-on experience with large industrial compressors, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Experience with facility and building maintenance, including utilities, plumbing, and general infrastructure support. Comfort working with mechanical installations and preventive maintenance programs in an industrial setting. Strong communication skills to document issues, communicate status, and collaborate with other maintenance and operations staff. Adaptability to changing priorities and the ability to respond quickly to equipment issues and plant needs. The position follows a rotating 12-hour shift schedule on a 2-2-3 pattern, alternating between day and night shifts, which supports continuous, around-the-clock operations. The work involves significant physical activity, including standing, climbing, bending, and handling heavy tools and equipment. Proper personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toed boots, and you will regularly use hand tools and power tools while working in and around mechanical rooms, utility spaces, and plant areas.
