Mechanical Assembly Technician Job Description This role focuses on building custom automated machinery from the ground up, assembling mechanical, pneumatic, and electro‑mechanical systems with a high level of precision. You will work closely with engineering and technical teams to mount components, route wiring, and fabricate parts, contributing to both one‑off machines and small production runs in a dynamic, project‑based environment. Responsibilities Perform mechanical assembly of custom machinery, including precision assembly using tools such as calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, and parallels. Assemble mechanical systems that include machined parts, motors, actuators, sensors, and other industrial hardware. Assemble and plumb pneumatic systems, including solenoid valves and pneumatic actuators. Route wires and cables on machines to ensure a clean, professional appearance and support reliable operation. Assist with mechanical troubleshooting and debugging of custom equipment during build and commissioning phases. Support installation of custom machinery at client facilities, including mechanical assembly and final adjustments on site. Fabricate custom parts using manual milling machines and manual lathes to support prototype and production builds. Carry out additional tasks related to machine assembly and support as directed by project leads or engineering staff. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. At least 3 years of experience with precision mechanical assembly of industrial or automated machinery. At least 1 year of experience with manual machining using a manual mill and lathe. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret mechanical assemblies and hardware requirements. Experience with mechanical assembly of custom machinery using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, and parallels. Hands‑on experience assembling mechanical systems including machined parts, motors, actuators, sensors, and related industrial components. Ability to assemble and plumb pneumatic systems, including solenoid valves and pneumatic actuators. Basic electrical and wiring capabilities sufficient to route wires and cables on machinery. Good organizational skills and strong housekeeping habits to maintain a clean and efficient work area. Basic computer skills for documentation, communication, and accessing technical information. Ability to work independently on several tasks simultaneously while managing shifting priorities. Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with personnel from a wide range of disciplines and levels. Positive attitude and strong work ethic in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment. Willingness and ability to travel to client sites to support installations and field work. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely during assembly and installation activities. Ownership and use of personal tools appropriate for mechanical assembly work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Electrical wiring experience is a plus and supports broader involvement in electro‑mechanical system integration. Experience working with automated equipment and robotics is beneficial for handling cutting‑edge automation projects. Comfort working in a collaborative environment with engineers, technicians, and automation specialists. Ability to adapt to varied daily tasks and non‑repetitive work, supporting both unique builds and small production runs. Interest in developing skills in industrial automation, pneumatics, and electro‑mechanical systems. Occasional travel to client sites is required to support installation and field service activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Benicia, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
