Job Description
Job Title:
Electromechanical Technician Job Description This role focuses on the mechanical and functional assembly of custom industrial products and systems, with a primary emphasis on mechanical assembly and support of basic electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control system assembly. You will build complete custom assemblies from engineering blueprints, support installation and testing activities, and collaborate closely with engineering and fabrication teams to ensure high-quality, accurate finished systems. Responsibilities Assemble custom products and systems by following blueprints and documentation provided by the engineering team. Perform mechanical assembly of components and systems, including work with nuts, bolts, fasteners, and structural parts. Carry out pneumatic and hydraulic assembly tasks, including routing and connecting lines, fittings, and related components. Perform installation, testing, and repair of industrial mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment used in project work. Complete basic electrical system routing and wiring in accordance with wiring diagrams and schematics. Read and interpret product and project documentation, including safety rules, operator's manuals, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to confirm design intent, resolve issues, and ensure accuracy of the final workpiece. Provide practical design input to engineering from an assembly and operator perspective to improve manufacturability and serviceability. Review all parts for each assembly and verify accuracy against the general assembly drawing prior to and during build. Perform and record routine maintenance on machine tools and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Provide occasional on-site support at customer locations for installations, warranty claims, and repairs. Apply several levels of surface finish using pneumatic polishing tools as required by project specifications. Perform product cleaning after assembly and/or testing to prepare equipment for shipment or delivery. Use hand tools, power tools, and simple machine tools safely and effectively during assembly and adjustment tasks. Follow all safety rules and procedures while working in a clean room environment and around industrial equipment. Complete all other related tasks as assigned periodically by the supervisor to support production and project needs. Essential Skills At least 2+ years of technical assembly experience in an industrial, mechanical, or closely related environment. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and general assembly drawings. Proven experience reading and understanding safety rules, operator's manuals, equipment manuals, and procedure manuals. Demonstrated proficiency using a variety of hand tools, including wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and similar tools. Experience working with nuts, bolts, and standard mechanical fasteners. Ability to accurately use a tape measure and perform basic measurements. Familiarity with simple power tools and basic machine tools used in assembly work. Basic understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic assembly principles. Ability to perform basic electrical routing and wiring following provided wiring diagrams. Capability to distinguish between standard and metric wrenches and fasteners from day one. Fundamental understanding of what bolts and common hardware components are and how they are used in assemblies. High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree or technical certification as a mechanic or in a related technical field is preferred. Experience working from detailed blueprints in a custom or non-assembly-line environment. Comfort working with vibratory tools and pneumatic polishing tools. Ability to provide practical feedback to engineering teams based on hands-on assembly experience. Strong attention to detail when reviewing parts against general assembly drawings. Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site installation, warranty, and repair support. Reliability in working first shift and being available for overtime as needed. Why Work Here? You will work in a custom assembly environment where every project is unique, allowing you to build complete systems rather than repeating a single task on an assembly line. The role offers significant growth potential, including training in electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic assembly and clear advancement paths to higher-level electromechanical technician roles with meaningful increases in responsibility and compensation. You will gain broad, hands-on experience across multiple disciplines while contributing to complex, high-quality industrial equipment. Work Environment The position is based in a clean room environment focused on custom industrial assemblies rather than high-volume assembly line work. You will typically work first shift in 8-hour shifts, spending most of the day standing while performing assembly tasks. Physical activities include bending, stooping, climbing stairs or ladders, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as using vibratory tools and other basic hand and power tools on an occasional to frequent basis depending on the project. Overtime is expected as project needs arise and will be scheduled by the supervisor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Peoria, IL.
