Role:
As an Industrial Mechanical Estimator with TAI Specialty Construction, you'll play a critical role in turning real-world industrial experience into winning project strategies. Whether you're an experienced estimator or a skilled trades professional—such as a pipefitter, millwright, or welder—ready to transition your role, this position offers the opportunity to leverage your hands-on knowledge in a new way.
In this role, you will transform blueprints and field conditions into accurate, competitive project bids for heavy industrial and manufacturing facilities. From conducting site walkdowns to developing detailed labor and material estimates, you'll serve as the link between field execution and project planning. Working closely with project managers, vendors, and clients, you'll help ensure every estimate reflects not just the drawings—but the realities of the work.

Our Mechanical Contracting team provides full spectrum mechanical services providing installation, maintenance, and repair solutions that optimize equipment performance and plant uptime. Primarily servicing the heavy industrial and manufacturing industries: chemical, food/beverage, power generation facilities, material handling/distribution facilities.
Here's a glimpse into your day to day:
- Develop budgets with preliminary plan information and professional knowledge and expertise.
- Request additional information and work directly with TAI's Project Managers, Foreman, and clients.
- Conduct site visits and attend pre-bid meetings to understand project scope.
- Review bid documents and create history of pre-bid RFPs and attend pre-bid meetings.
- Review and verify job scope, general conditions, job schedule, profit and subcontractor pricing with the Project Manager.
- Identify project labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, written specifications, and related documents.
- Create bid documents such as Scope of Work and Schedule of Values
- Calculate costs of subcontract labor, general conditions, and materials.
- Transmit Requests for Proposal (RFPs) to subcontractors; following up by phone and e-mail to ensure an adequate number of bids will be received and make subcontractors aware of unusual plan requirements.
- Verify Scope of Work from subcontractors and format bids to fulfill all RFP requirements.
- Evaluate subcontractor bids to bid documents and plan to ensure that full scope of work was considered and consider subcontractors' ability to perform the work Develop accurate, thorough, and complete job estimates.
- Track the status of open RFPs through receipt of subcontractor bid.
- Assist in reviewing change orders.
- Work closely with Project Manager(s) to maintain relationships with existing clients and subcontractors and advise PMs of bids that may require their input before the bid date.
- Collect supplier quotations before the bid date and ensure the quote meets correct scope of work for project.
- Follow up with clients to ensure bids are received and answer any client questions.
- Collaborate with the client to help them achieve their project cost budget through consideration of plan details, alternate material/finishes and building method.
- Market all of TAI's services to clients to aid in development of new business and generating new leads.
You'll be a perfect fit if you have:
- Highschool degree or GED equivalent is required. Associates or Bachelor's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working within industrial mechanical contracting field.
- Experience performing/supporting mechanical estimating for industrial projects within power, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and/or food & beverage facilities.
- Certified Estimating Professional (CEP), Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar certification is a plus.
- Experience with reviewing PFD's, P&ID's, piping orthographic and isometric drawings, bill of materials, equipment and piping specifications.
- Basic knowledge of ASME and piping codes.
- Familiarity with computerized estimating programs is a plus.
- The ability to interpret blueprints.
- Proficient with using Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
- Experience reviewing drawings in AutoCAD is a plus

- Able to travel to client sites within the Baltimore Metro Area with occasional travel to four state coverage area, DE/PA/VA/NJ.
Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications/Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about client's facilities. This may include, but isn't limited to ascending and descending stairways, portable and fixed ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment used to reach equipment at various levels of height some of which maybe in excess of 25 feet in a safe manner.
- Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions as needed.
Compensation and Benefits:
Pay:
$80,000-100,000 annually (depending on experience)
- Eligible for overtime pay
- Annual Profit Sharing Bonus (variable)
