(Entry / Intermediate Level) Job Description The Motor Modification Technician performs in-house mechanical modifications, assembly, and disassembly of electric AC/DC motors according to detailed customer specifications. This role focuses on hands-on mechanical work using standard hand, power, and pneumatic tools in a manufacturing and warehouse shop environment. You will receive on-the-job training from the Modification Lead, work with different sizes and types of motors, and ensure all work meets quality, performance, and safety standards while accurately documenting activities and supporting production goals. Responsibilities Perform in-house modifications to electric AC/DC motors based on detailed customer specifications. Disassemble, rework, and reassemble motors of various sizes using standard hand tools, power tools, and air/pneumatic tools. Interpret and follow modification orders to ensure motors are built or reworked to the required specifications. Track and document all modification activities, production orders, and inspection data using Microsoft Office and/or SAP systems. Collaborate with engineers and quality assurance teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve product and performance issues. Conduct quality checks and testing to confirm motors meet required performance and safety standards, in line with shop expectations. Maintain accurate inventory placement for modified motors and coordinate with warehouse teams for proper storage and shipping. Follow strict safety procedures and consistently use required personal protective equipment (PPE) in a manufacturing environment. Support modification shop leadership in meeting production targets and participating in continuous improvement initiatives. Complete daily equipment checks to ensure tools and machinery are in safe and proper working condition. Perform regular housekeeping and shop organization tasks following 5S practices to maintain a clean and efficient work area. Work effectively within a small team in the modification shop, communicating progress and issues to leads and colleagues. Adapt to working on both new motor builds and extensive rework projects depending on customer and production needs. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience in mechanical assembly and repair in an industrial, manufacturing, or similar environment. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform 100% hands-on mechanical work. Proficiency using standard hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools safely and effectively. Experience with industrial or mechanical assembly work, including working with motors or similar equipment. Ability to read, understand, and follow modification orders and related documentation. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office for reporting, tracking, and documentation tasks. Ability to work with AC/DC motors, low-voltage equipment, or similar mechanical systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with prior motor assembly, particularly AC electric motors, is a strong plus. Experience in small motor or engine assembly and repair, such as automotive or similar mechanical work, is beneficial. Exposure to automotive mechanics or automotive repair environments is an advantage. Basic electrical knowledge related to motors or low-voltage systems is a plus. Forklift experience and comfort working in a manufacturing warehouse setting are preferred. Familiarity with manufacturing industry practices and industrial assembly processes. Experience using SAP or similar enterprise systems for tracking production orders and inventory is helpful. Work Environment This role is based in a modification shop located within a warehouse-style manufacturing environment. You join a small team of approximately nine people when fully staffed, collaborating closely with on-site leadership and peers. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional overtime and some Saturdays as needed and approved to meet production demands. You perform all work using provided tools and uniforms, and you are required to bring your own steel-toe footwear as part of the PPE dress code. Work involves regular use of hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools, and may include interaction with warehouse equipment such as forklifts. The shop operates under structured safety guidelines and 5S organizational practices to maintain a safe, efficient, and well-organized workspace.
