Mechanical Assembly Technician Job Description An innovative and rapidly growing solar panel manufacturing start-up is seeking a versatile Mechanical Assembly Technician to help build and scale production operations from the ground up. This position suits a hands-on technician with strong experience in mechanical assembly, sub-assembly, and system integration who enjoys collaborating closely with engineering and cross-functional teams. Responsibilities Assemble mechanical and electro-mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete systems for solar panel manufacturing equipment and related products. Work from blueprints, schematics, Bills of Materials, and verbal instructions to complete builds accurately and efficiently. Perform integration of mechanical systems with electrical components as required to deliver fully functional equipment. Use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and precision measuring instruments to perform high-quality assembly work. Inspect parts, sub-assemblies, and completed assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications. Troubleshoot assembly issues and collaborate with engineering to resolve design, fit, or process challenges. Support prototyping, new product introduction (NPI), and continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing operation. Maintain organized, clean workstations and consistently follow all safety and quality standards. Assist with documentation, including process updates and the development or refinement of work instructions as processes evolve. Support cross-functional needs such as testing, rework, packaging, or material handling as required in a start-up environment. Contribute to process development and equipment building activities to improve efficiency and scalability. Participate in machine building and system integration activities, ensuring alignment with engineering specifications. Essential Skills 2-5+ years of experience in mechanical assembly, sub-assembly, or manufacturing technician roles. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with assembly tools and equipment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and Bills of Materials. Experience performing quality checks, visual inspections, and basic troubleshooting on assemblies and components. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving production environment with shifting priorities. Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to producing high-quality work. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering and production teams. Experience using hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and precision measuring instruments for mechanical assembly. Demonstrated capability in troubleshooting mechanical and basic electro-mechanical issues during assembly. Comfort working from verbal instructions as well as documented processes and work instructions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a sub-assembly, integration, or engineering technician supporting complex systems or prototypes. Experience working in a start-up, R D, or new product development environment where processes are not fully defined. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electro-mechanical systems independently with minimal supervision. Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, or automated systems used in manufacturing or equipment building. Experience supporting process improvements, documentation updates, or the development of build instructions. Associate's degree or technical certification in mechanical engineering technology, mechatronics, or a related field (preferred but not required). Hands-on experience with process development and continuous improvement initiatives in a production setting. Exposure to machine building and system integration for complex equipment. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.00/hr.
