This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing shop production, supervising fabrication teams, optimizing manufacturing processes, and ensuring safe, high-quality, on-time production. The ideal candidate has a strong background in structural steel fabrication, CNC machinery, welding operations, and production management . Responsibilities Manage day-to-day operations of the structural steel fabrication shop Supervise shop personnel including welders, fitters, fabricators, CNC operators, and machine operators Plan, schedule, and prioritize production to meet customer delivery deadlines Oversee operation of CNC fabrication equipment including: Beam Lines Plasma Tables CNC Drills Band Saws Press Brakes Robotic Welding Systems Review fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and production documents Ensure fabricated steel components meet quality standards and project specifications Monitor machine utilization, preventive maintenance, and equipment performance Coordinate with Engineering, Estimating, Project Management, Purchasing, and Quality teams Improve shop productivity, workflow, labor utilization, and manufacturing efficiency Implement Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives Track production KPIs including productivity, throughput, labor efficiency, scrap, and downtime Ensure OSHA compliance and maintain a safe manufacturing environment Train and mentor production employees Support inventory control, material flow, and shop logistics Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (preferred) 2+ years of leadership experience in structural steel fabrication or heavy metal manufacturing Experience managing fabrication shop operations Strong knowledge of: Structural Steel Fabrication Welding Processes CNC Fabrication Equipment Steel Manufacturing Operations Ability to read and interpret: Structural Drawings Shop Drawings Blueprints Fabrication Details Experience with production scheduling and workforce planning Strong leadership and team management skills Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Experience with ERP/MRP systems Preferred Qualifications Experience with AISC Certified Fabricators Knowledge of
