This role focuses on inspection, troubleshooting, teardown, repair, precision assembly, and documentation of industrial gearboxes and rotating equipment used in heavy manufacturing environments. This is a hands-on, diagnostic-driven role—not a parts-changing position. The ideal candidate can identify failure causes, evaluate repair requirements, and rebuild equipment to reliable operating conditions. Key Responsibilities Inspect, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, and reassemble industrial gearboxes and rotating equipment Perform detailed teardown inspections and identify root causes of failure (bearings, gears, lubrication, misalignment, contamination, etc.) Measure and evaluate critical components including shafts, gears, bearings, housings, bores, and fits Determine repair scope and communicate needs for parts, machining, welding, or replacement Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly prints, and repair documentation Install bearings, seals, shafts, gears, and related components using proper tools and methods Perform precision checks such as backlash, endplay, runout, and gear contact patterns Document inspection findings, measurements, photos, and repair recommendations Collaborate with machinists, welders, QC, and operations teams to complete jobs efficiently Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment Follow all safety procedures related to heavy equipment, lifting, and shop operations Required Qualifications Hands-on experience with industrial gearbox repair, rotating equipment, or heavy mechanical assemblies Strong mechanical troubleshooting and teardown/assembly skills Understanding of gear systems, bearings, seals, lubrication, and alignment principles Experience using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, etc.) Ability to identify wear and failure conditions such as scoring, spalling, corrosion, or misalignment Comfortable working with large, heavy industrial components Ability to clearly document findings and communicate with cross-functional teams Dependable, safety-focused, and able to work in a production repair environment Preferred Qualifications Experience in steel mills, heavy manufacturing, mining, paper, or similar industries Work with large industrial reducers, mill drives, crane gearboxes, or custom assemblies Experience performing backlash, bearing setup, and gear pattern checks Familiarity with machining, welding repair coordination, or advanced inspection techniques Experience with cranes, rigging, forklifts, and heavy lifting equipment Additional skills in vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, or field service Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, lift, and perform physical work throughout the shift Lift and carry up to 50 lbs Comfortable working in industrial shop conditions (heat, oil, grease, heavy equipment) Ability to follow all safety policies and wear required PPE Schedule & Compensation Full-time, day shift Overtime may be required based on workload and customer needs
Pay Range:
