Job Title:
Plant Mechanic - Tool and Die Maker/Machinist $34.50/hr Job Description The Plant Mechanic maintains, repairs, and rebuilds production machinery, tools, and equipment to ensure reliable and efficient plant operations. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with precision tool and die activities, supporting both ongoing production and new product testing in an industrial environment. Responsibilities Rebuild threaders and associated tooling to maintain optimal performance and extend equipment life. Move, position, and install machinery and equipment safely and efficiently within the plant. Assemble and repair new and used production tools and dies to support manufacturing operations. Fabricate new parts in the workshop using machining equipment and tools as required. Perform extraordinary maintenance on machine shop machinery to prevent unexpected downtime. Conduct tests on new products to verify performance and support production readiness. Assist and cooperate with co-workers and external contractors to complete maintenance and project work. Perform work on heat treating equipment and support the heat treating process as needed. Make and repair tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, templates, dies, parts, and machines to precise specifications. Carry out plant repairs, construction tasks, and maintenance programs as assigned to support facility upkeep. Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on plant equipment and machinery. Perform preventive maintenance activities to ensure safe and reliable operation of production equipment. Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to complete repairs and fabrication work. Complete other duties as assigned by supervision in support of plant maintenance and production goals. Essential Skills Journeyman card in machining or tool and die. Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience in mechanical repair and maintenance. Hands-on experience with tool and die work, including building, repairing, and maintaining tooling. Proficiency in machining operations, including operation of lathes and related machine tools. Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repair. Ability to perform die repair and maintenance to support production tools and equipment. Skill in troubleshooting mechanical issues and implementing effective repairs. Experience with preventive maintenance practices for industrial machinery. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Capability to work safely in an industrial environment and follow established procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with heat treating equipment and processes. Background in constructing and maintaining jigs, fixtures, gauges, templates, and specialized tooling. Familiarity with industrial construction and plant maintenance programs. Ability to collaborate effectively with a small maintenance team and external contractors. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a production environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in an industrial plant environment that can be noisy, dirty, and hot during the summer months. You will work around heavy machinery, production equipment, and heat treating systems. The position starts on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the expectation of flexibility to move to second or third shift in accordance with union seniority rules. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are required to perform duties safely in this setting.
