Job Description

The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance of city landscaping and grounds during high volume periods. Job duties consist of related refuse maintenance duties. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of attractive municipal grounds. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.

The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or logical assignments for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification, but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.
GROUNDS MAINTENANCE DUTIES
(65%) Rakes and cleans grounds. Trims, edges, and weeds. Edges curbs and sidewalks. Participates in greenhouse plant production. Lays sods; installs plans. Removes, replaces, and prunes trees. Installs and maintains site irrigation systems. Applies fertilizer, insecticides, and pesticides. Cleans culverts, drains, and ditches. Maintains landscaping and installs plants and mulch. Breaks up beaver dams. Operates a variety of construction equipment. Installs seasonal lighting and decorations.
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE DUTIES
(10%) Performs pre- and post-trip equipment inspections. Cleans equipment interior and exterior. Performs minor maintenance and repair duties; checks and adds fluid. Reports major repair needs to supervisor.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
(25%) Builds and installs decorative displays. Cleans and organizes the office. Communicates and interacts with the public. Assists in the removal of dead animals from the right-of-way. Assists other departments as needed. Performs other duties as assigned or needed. M ust be at least eighteen (18) years of age. M ust be able to lift fifty (50) pounds repeatedly. E xperience in performing heavy manual labor preferred. E xperience in the operation of trucks and other light-duty automotive equipment preferred.

Employees frequently lift light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell. J ob duties are typically performed outdoors, occasionally in extreme or inclement weather. Employees are exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. J ob duties require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. J ob duties require the ability to deal with and relate to people beyond giving and receiving instructions. J ob duties require the ability to talk, express, or exchange ideas by means of spoken words and/or hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear. J ob candidates must be able to adapt to and perform under moderate stress. J ob duties require regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
City of Prattville employees are required to obtain knowledge of the City of Prattville Policies and Procedures, and knowledge of their specific department rules, policies, and procedures. S kill in the operation of assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment. S kill in prioritizing and organizing work. S kill in the use of hand and power tools. S kill in oral and written communication. A bility to perform manual labor for an extended period, under various weather conditions.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
M ust provide proof of your legal right to work in the United States. M ust possess and maintain a valid driver's license. H igh School Diploma/GED preferred. W illing to work overtime. W illing to cooperate with the workload of the department. W illing to comply with City of Prattville rules and regulations. M ust submit to drug screenings for this safety sensitive position. M ust accomplish the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner.
