Departmental Overview The UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation Department provides a full range of parking and transportation services, serving a diverse community of more than 42,000 students and 11,000 faculty and staff in the City of Berkeley, at the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. Position Summary The Building Maintenance Worker reports to the Building Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for reporting, repairing, and monitoring safety-related equipment problems within Parking & Transportation parking lots, structures, and buildings. This position performs routine maintenance and repair of all mechanical and electronic equipment in the department and coordinates work projects with Special Events, Customer Service, and Facility Services. The Building Maintenance Worker ensures maintenance work areas are kept in accordance with University and department safety standards and conducts daily inspections of parking lots and structures to remove debris and provide clean, well-illuminated, and maintained parking areas for the safety of customers. Responsibilities Under direct supervision, performs a variety of unskilled tasks in the maintenance, alteration and repair of parking garages and related facilities and equipment. Responsible for performing the weekly collection of moneys from electronic and manual ticket machines, ensuring revenue is transported to the University Central Cashiering Unit in a timely manner. Work with other department units for special events on campus, including sporting events, concerts, commencements, and construction. Perform routine and major maintenance on ticket machine equipment, including self-service electronic machines. Work with internal software to troubleshoot and update postings, and equipment. Respond to reports of broken or malfunctioning control equipment. Under the direction of Assistant Field Operations Manager, orders and maintains parts and supplies specifically related to ticket machine equipment. Perform touch-up painting on ticket machines in parking lots, and structures. May drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of duties. Other miscellaneous tasks assigned as needed. Required Qualifications Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Basic mechanical aptitude. Basic ability to perform unskilled building maintenance work. Preferred Qualifications Education / Training Vocational/trade school training and/or minimum 4 years of industry experience.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.29 (Step 3) - $33.38 (Step 17). This is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position.
