•While headquartered in Foresthill, this position requires frequent travel to remote sites, some of which are located a significant distance from the duty station. Candidates should be prepared for extended time away from the primary work location. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

To perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled mechanical and general maintenance.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry level class in the Utility Worker series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience. The Utility Worker I is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor (Mechanical).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

- The following duties are typical for this classification. Perform preventative maintenance and repair of equipment of facilities associated with dams and hydro-electric plants. Operate a variety of hand and power tools in accomplishing assigned tasks. Operate heavy tractor equipment as needed. Paint buildings and equipment. Clear brush. Perform routine building maintenance, road maintenance and routine heavy equipment maintenance and servicing. Perform concrete construction and repair work. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other Agency employees and the public using principles of good customer service. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Safe construction practices. Safe hand and power tool operation. Basic building maintenance skills including carpentry, plumbing, painting. Basic construction methods and techniques. Principles and practices of customer service.

Ability to:

Operate hand and power tools safely. Perform routine equipment maintenance and servicing. Work in confined spaces occasionally. Follow oral and written instructions. Read and understand label instructions, MSDS data, simple drawings and maps. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is carried out in an outside environment with exposure to various weather conditions. Frequently climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand and walk. Frequently push, pull, grasp and carry while walking. Work on various types of terrain and footing which may be slippery. Frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Experience and Education - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Experience:

One year of experience performing construction or maintenance related duties.

Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

License or Certificate:

Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record, with a Class A obtained prior to completion of probation.
