Job Description
This recruitment will close at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026 or once 150 applications have been received, whichever comes first. Under general supervision, the Park Maintenance Worker performs a variety of semi-skilled and laboring tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of city parks, grounds, buildings and facilities. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Operating power rotary mowers, edgers, backpack blowers and string trimmers; riding mowers Weeding, planting, transplanting, cultivating and spraying shrubs, flowers and weeds Trimming shrubs, hedges and trees with hand pruners, loppers and power hedge trimmers Watering and fertilizing turf Raking leaves Applying pesticides and herbicides as required Cleaning walks, fields, ball courts, outdoor areas and ball field maintenance Cleaning building areas, toilets, floors and woodwork Performing routine repairs to irrigation systems such as sprinkler head replacements, flushing of lateral lines, basic diagnostics of and other minor repairs to sprinklers May assist in scheduling and programming irrigation controllers Assisting in the moving, setup and breakdown of temporary structures or equipment Assisting skilled workers in repairs to buildings
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and training that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below. High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable. One year general park maintenance experience is preferred.Licenses:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license with a good driving record.Knowledge of:
Basic methods, practices and procedures used in grounds and building maintenance; materials, equipment and methods used in turf maintenance, plant care, repair and installation of various irrigation systems, and landscaping; and safe work practices.Skills & Abilities:
Effectively and safely operate hand tools and power equipment; identify common park plants and trees; follow oral and written instructions and understanding of materials safety data sheets and product labels; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees and those contacted in the course of work.Physical and Mental Demands:
Must be able to work with a full range of body movements involving reaching, bending, stooping, grasping, squatting and climbing; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; and stand and walk for long periods of time; strength to perform heavy labor; and dexterity to use hand and power-driven tools; ability to discriminate colors and see within normal ranges.Environmental Exposure:
Frequently work outside, and may be exposed to variable weather conditions; exposure to noise from traffic and power-driven tools & equipment, chemicals contained in pesticides and herbicides, vibration in working with hand and power-driven tools and fumes from the equipment.Supplemental Information:
The benefits package associated with regular full-time positions includes: Retirement Formula- The City participates in the CalPERS retirement system 2% at 55 for "classic" CalPERS members and 2% at 62 for "new" CalPERS members 2. The City does not participate in Social Security Generous Leave Programs

: Employment offers are conditional, based upon the successful completion of a medical examination which includes drug and alcohol screening for safety-sensitive positions.
