THE OPPORTUNITY
The City of Moreno Valley is seeking a dedicated, hardworking individual for the Parks Maintenance Worker position. This role involves a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks to ensure the proper care and upkeep of city parks and related systems and facilities. Key responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation lines and sprinklers for landscaped areas; performing general maintenance tasks such as edging, fertilizing, and watering lawns; planting and maintaining greenery; cleaning and maintaining park facilities; and operating various hand and power tools.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Parks Maintenance Worker position will have basic knowledge of landscaping methods and techniques, including planting, cultivation, pruning, and the maintenance of greenery. They should understand soil preparation and enrichment, be familiar with weed and insect control, and have experience with irrigation systems. Proficiency in using and maintaining standard landscaping tools is essential, along with the ability to follow instructions, perform physical labor, and adhere to safety regulations. Strong written record-keeping skills, independent judgment, and excellent interpersonal abilities to work effectively with city management, staff, and the public are also crucial. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals eager to grow their careers in parks and landscape maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A
typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and one year of experience in gardening or landscape maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Previous experience with a city or government agency is highly desirable.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Parks Maintenance Worker is the entry-level class in the Parks Maintenance class series. Under supervision, incumbents perform a range of duties in the maintenance of City-owned parks and facilities. Parks Maintenance Worker is distinguished from Lead Parks Maintenance Worker in that incumbents in the latter class are assigned to work requiring a higher level of skill and provide lead work direction, training, and assistance to Parks Maintenance Workers.
