About us Oroville Cemetery District became a Special District of the State of California in 1928. Our agency is governed by a Board of Five Directors, appointed by the Butte County Board of Supervisor. We maintain and manage four cemeteries in the Oroville area; Oroville Cemetery-2600 Feather River Blvd., Memorial Park-5646 Lincoln Blvd., Jewish Cemetery 1874 Feather River Blvd., and Wyandotte Cemetery-4600 Foothill Blvd. The main office is located at 5646 Lincoln Blvd.

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of cemetery maintenance duties including burials, concrete work, mowing, trimming, general cleanup; repairs and maintains irrigation systems, applies pesticides, as directed; and participates in landscape installation.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Works under general supervision of the Superintendent.
Essential Job Functions:
Essential functions may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list: it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Performs a variety of landscape maintenance activities, conducts fertilizing, weed control, seeding and watering procedures; mows, edges walkways and curbs; conducts general cleanup of trash, clippings, leaves and debris; prunes and trims trees and shrubs; plants and extracts trees; performs brush removal; maintains landscaped areas; loads and hauls materials. Assists with the repair of irrigation systems and landscapes; sweeps and clean roadways, pathways and parking areas. Applies a variety of pesticides/herbicides to control and eliminate the spread of weeds and pests. Performs routine maintenance on tools and motorized machinery; repairs and provides basic maintenance on mowers, chain saws, power leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, weed eaters and other related equipment. • Performs building maintenance activities. Performs cleanup duties; assists in the installation of irrigation systems, lawns, planting beds, landscapes and other related activities; assists Cemetery Maintenance Workers I, II, III and Superintendent. May assist with the preparation and completion of daily burial/interment services. May assist in the installation and accurate placement of memorial markers and maintains existing memorials. Ensures actions and demeanor are professional and polite creating a positive image to clients/families. Assures that all equipment is cleaned and properly maintained. • Maintains a safe working environment. Follows the District's Safety Policy, Rules & Regulations, California's Health & Safety Code and OSHA regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Skills and knowledge in the safe operation of equipment, tools, materials and supplies required to maintain cemetery grounds and buildings. Skilled in interacting with people of different social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. Knowledge of landscape and irrigation design practices. Knowledge of chemical application, safety around chemicals and equipment. Skill in operation and maintaining landscape equipment. Skill in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, funeral directors and staff, and vendors. Ability to communicate with and understand communications from others in English both orally and in writing.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses:
High School diploma or GED equivalent. One year of experience in landscape maintenance. A valid State of California Driver's license is required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in an outdoor environment. The noise level when working around equipment is often loud. The employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to grasp, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee will lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds such as caskets and headstones. Walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, hazardous chemicals and extreme weather conditions, drug user instruments and infectious diseases.
Equipment and Tools Utilized:
Pickup truck, dump or flatbed truck, lawn and landscaping equipment, tractor, commercial mower, push mower, compressor, welder, chainsaw, edger, weed trimmer, electric motor, pump, sprinklers, irrigation system, various hand and power tools for ground maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and cement work, and/or any other equipment as may be required. 2
