Under general supervision, performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks in the City of Santa Ana Corporate Yard facility. This classification has a focus in general maintenance and repair work in the City of Santa Ana Corporate Yard facility. Incumbents perform manual labor under supervision and operate and maintain various tools and equipment. Incumbents are primarily responsible for the upkeep of this facility, including offices, store, mechanic shop, gym, gas station, car wash, vehicle area, and facility perimeter. Maintains and repairs the City of Santa Ana Corporate Yard facility by performing unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks, including but not limited to pipefitting, plumbing, masonry, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general construction work Installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs facilities, including but not limited to plaster, asphalt, concrete, brick, tile, and block surfaces and flooring; gates, fences, and related structures; doorframes and other internal structures; electrical circuits and light fixtures; irrigation systems, including controllers, moisture sensors, and remote control valves; fuel underground tank, islands, and pumps, including hoses, nozzles, and clarifiers; compressors, oil tanks, and waste water tanks; and electrical and plumbing equipment Completes, tracks, and maintains records regarding assignments, job orders, and facility work order requests; and uses computer and other electronic devices to input data and retrieve work orders Operates, maintains, and stores a variety of hand power tools and equipment, including forklifts, power sprays, paint stripers, drills, floor buffers, vacuums, and blowers; checks, maintains, services, and keeps inventory of work equipment and tools; and works with related chemicals Maintains facility markings and signage, including painting vehicle lane lines, parking spaces, and stop legends Operates backhoe to clean wash racks, material bins, and transfer station Pumps out waste water in all facility vaults and tanks, and maintains and organizes transfer station area to ensure compliance with the county inspections Cleans and clears storm drains to ensure proper drainage Cleans, inspects, and performs necessary maintenance at the vehicle wash station. Cleans and maintains gym facility and equipment Assists with hazmat and surplus pick-ups and deliveries Sets-up traffic signage, safety devices, and barricades, and assists with setting up facilities and parking for City meetings and events, including personnel testing Transports facility materials and supplies; and ensures facility cleanliness and that no illegal waste is dumped in bins Responds to emergency requests during and after work hours May assist with maintenance and repair work at City property May assist with Corporate Yard store duties Performs other duties as assigned One (1) year of laboring or related experience involving construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Materials, equipment, methods, techniques, and tools used in facility maintenance and repair work; use of power tools and equipment in the pipefitting, plumbing, masonry, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general construction work, including forklifts, power sprays, paint stripers, drills, floor buffers, vacuums, and blowers; safety precautions and practices in the operation of common construction tools, equipment, and chemicals; standards and guidelines in safe work area traffic control; and recordkeeping of inventories.

Skill in:

Use of a personal computers and relevant software programs; and safe use of a vehicles, forklift, and common tools and equipment used in facility maintenance and repair work.

Ability to:

Perform unskilled, semiskilled, and skilled maintenance and repair work; use and maintain common hand tools, small power equipment, and other hand equipment; operate vehicles, forklifts, and other related equipment; perform routine tasks of a strenuous physical nature; measure and sort materials and supplies; perform basic arithmetic; learn and follow safety requirements and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; understand and carry out oral and written instructions effectively; and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession and retention of a valid California Class "C" Driver's License is a condition of continued employment. Possession and retention of a valid forklift operation certification is required by the end of the probationary period and is a condition of continued employment. Must be willing and able to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Must be willing and able to work outside in varying weather conditions.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

Possession and retention of valid California Class A or B driver's licenses is highly desirable.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from Public Works Agency management and/or supervisory staff. This is a non-supervisory position.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions:

Work is generally performed in facility, field, and construction settings. Occasional travel to different sites is required. Work on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain. May be required to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Incumbents are exposed to airborne particles, biohazards, chemicals, electricity, excessive heat and cold, fumes, gases, grease and oil, noisy conditions, pesticides, smoke, toxic agents, treated water, untreated water, and variable weather conditions.

Physical Conditions:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to operate vehicles; operate hand tools; climb stairs and ladders; work in confined spaces; work at heights over ten (10) feet; occasionally kneel, run, jump, climb, crawl, and lie down; frequently sit; continuously reach, bend, stoop, crouch, squat, twist, stand, and walk; operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, including the use of a computer keyboard and/or hand tools; utilize smell, sight, hearing, speaking, reading, writing, and math ability to exchange information; lift, carry, push, and pull up to ninety (90) pounds.
