Facilities Helper Job Description The Facilities Helper supports senior facilities technicians by performing a variety of general labor, maintenance, and housekeeping tasks throughout the facility. This role helps ensure a clean, safe, and well-organized work environment by transporting tools and materials, assisting with minor repairs, and maintaining overall facility cleanliness. Responsibilities Assist senior facilities technicians by transporting tools, materials, and supplies to work areas and providing them as needed during projects. Replace light bulbs and air filters as directed to help maintain building systems and ensure a safe, well-lit environment. Perform light painting touch-ups on walls, doors, and other surfaces to keep the facility looking clean and well maintained. Maintain the shop floor by cleaning up plastic wrap, debris, and other waste materials, and by sweeping regularly. Assist with trash removal throughout the facility, ensuring waste and recyclables are collected and disposed of properly. Support office setups by helping to assemble, move, and transport furniture and equipment to designated locations. Perform basic plumbing tasks such as snaking drains in bathrooms and unclogging toilets under guidance. Carry out general custodial and janitorial duties, including cleaning common areas and maintaining orderly workspaces. Follow safety guidelines and instructions from senior technicians to complete tasks efficiently and safely. Communicate clearly with team members to understand task requirements and report progress or issues. Essential Skills Experience performing general labor tasks in a facilities, maintenance, or similar environment. Basic facilities maintenance skills, including light repair work and simple upkeep tasks. Ability to perform cleaning, housekeeping, custodial, and janitorial duties to maintain a clean and safe facility. Basic painting skills for light touch-up work on walls and other surfaces. Fundamental plumbing abilities, such as snaking drains and unclogging toilets, with guidance. Good communication skills to understand instructions and coordinate with senior technicians and team members. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally as part of daily tasks. Ability to stand for up to 8 hours straight during the shift. Ability to speak and understand English well to follow directions and maintain safe operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in facilities maintenance, general labor, or a similar support role. Comfort working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Strong attention to detail when cleaning, organizing, and performing light repairs. Work Environment This role operates in a facility and shop floor environment that involves regular movement throughout the building, including offices, common areas, and maintenance spaces. The position follows a first-shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work involves standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and performing tasks such as sweeping, cleaning, trash removal, light painting, and basic plumbing. The environment includes regular interaction with senior technicians and other staff, and requires adherence to safety practices while working with tools, cleaning supplies, and basic maintenance equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Lyme, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
