Job Description

Duties At the full performance level (WG-07) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Provides recurring maintenance and repair work on roads, trails, and signs. Assists journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers with recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Works as a team member on crews that perform pavement sealing, asphalt and concrete potholing, using hot patch, cold patch, and concrete mixtures, milling and paving. Creates and installs signage along roadways and trails. Operates and performs operator maintenance on cars, trucks, and/or vans and stake trucks to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. Requirements Conditions of employment Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. You may be required to work some evenings and weekends. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. This is a bargaining unit position. Qualifications:

Physical Demands:
Requires heavy to moderate effort, and occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
Working Conditions:
Operates motor vehicles and equipment in or near fast moving traffic, in extreme heat and inclement weather while working outdoors (temperatures 0 to 95+ degrees), and in darkness for snow removal and other emergencies. Works outside and is exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors, including extremes of cold, heat, and humidity. May be exposed to dust, dirt, wind, rain, sleet, and snow. May work with dangerous chemicals, paints, solvents, etc. requiring the appropriate use of personal protective equipment as specified by the supervisor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Works around moving equipment. May be exposed to insect and animal bites and stings, plant toxins. The work performed requires the exertion of very heavy physical effort in operating large riding mowers; or lawn and garden tractors on grades and in areas with bushes, trees, and other visible obstacles that require significant maneuvering and lever control.
