Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting with cleaning and grounds maintenance. An employee in this position performs a variety of cleaning tasks in and around public buildings and structures. Work is performed independently within established policies and procedures and is reviewed by superiors through conferences, reports, and results obtained. Participates in the performance of a variety of cleaning tasks performed in and around public buildings and structures. Trains and instructs custodial workers in proper methods and procedures of custodial work. Assists in loading, unloading, and moving supplies, equipment, and furniture. Assists in ordering and maintaining an inventory of various custodial equipment and supplies. Performs minor maintenance on equipment. Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports. Performs all duties of Building Maintenance Worker I. Drives a forklift in the transport of equipment as needed. May be required to participate in and/or facilitate training to support departmental or City initiatives and requirements. May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department. Position is designated as Mission Critical. High school diploma from an accredited school or a GED. Two years of experience in a custodial or related field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license. May be required to possess and maintain a valid telephone number. Floor cleaning classes and certifications preferred. Must be able to pass a secondary background check provided by the City of Lakeland Police Department within 30 days of hire. Failure to pass this requirement will result in termination of employment.
KNOWLEDGE
: Materials, methods, and practices used in cleaning and related custodial operations. Operating and maintaining vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other custodial equipment.
ABILITIES
Train employees in cleaning and related work. Establish and maintain effective relationships with subordinates, other employees, supervisors, and the public. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Perform lifting and cleaning tasks.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual work, including walking or standing most of the time and lifting up to 40 pounds. Exposure to inclement weather, toxic fumes, noxious odors, cold/hot temperatures, wet/humid conditions, and environmental hazards. Normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, taste, smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
(RP Funding): Exerting up to 100 pounds of force regularly and carrying/holding 30 pounds continuously. Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods. Exposure to inclement weather, toxic fumes, noxious odors, cold/hot temperatures, wet/humid conditions, and environmental hazards. Normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, taste, smell, depth perception, and texture perception. All City of Lakeland positions are subject to testing (e.g. written, oral, performance, computerized, interview, and/or any combination).
