Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Solid Waste Division oversees the contract for curbside collection of garbage, yard waste, and recyclable materials for over 230,000 homes in Orange County, and the operation and maintenance of the Orange County Landfill, two transfer stations, and recycling processing operations. The landfill is the largest publicly owned and operated landfill in the state of Florida. The Solid Waste Division is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of ¿ Maintenance Person¿. This is routine manual work that requires performing unskilled manual labor duties in a variety of construction and maintenance projects throughout County buildings, grounds and other properties. This includes light and heavy physical labor such as cutting weeds, grass and brush, assists in carrying materials and tools and other duties as assigned. Assignments, including elementary equipment operation may require skills that can be learned on the job. Job Description General Functions Performs unskilled manual labor duties in a variety of construction and maintenance projects throughout County buildings, grounds and other properties. This is routine manual work that requires performing a variety of unskilled duties. An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for performing light and heavy physical labor such as cutting weeds, grass and brush. Assists in carrying materials and tools and performing other duties as assigned. Some assignments, including elementary equipment operation, may require skills that can be learned on the job. Work is performed under the direction of an assigned supervisor, but many tasked assigned may be routine and repetitive in nature and once learned can be carried out under general supervision. Perform other duties as assigned. Representative Duties/Assignments Performs a variety of parks maintenance work not requiring specialized knowledge and skills. Sprays and trims foliage, cuts grass and weeds with hand tools and mowers, assists in planting trees and shrubbery, trims hedges and rakes leaves. Assists craftsman in a variety of unskilled tasks, mixes concrete with shovel, using prescribed amounts of sand, cement and water, removes walls and makes openings for repair and reconstruction work. Clears ditches with bush cutter, digs ditches with shovels, builds retaining walls, places sandbags, and performs other related tasks. Installs new and old road signs, erects barricades, and tacks reflectors onto barricades, assists in patching roads. Removes, installs and repairs sewer pipe. Works in trenches or excavations, often with water. Performs work in manholes and lift stations, often with forced ventilation. Operates mechanical sewer cleaning equipment. Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks and vans, moves or aids in moving heavy boxes or equipment and large objects. May drive light automotive vehicles or equipment as directed. Minimum Qualifications Ability to follow written and oral instructions required to perform duties. May be required to possess and maintain the appropriate valid Commercial Driver's License for the type of equipment operated. Some knowledge of simple equipment. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions.

Salary Information Pay Grade:

009 - From $17.01 to $21.56

FLSA Status:
