Job Description
Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position requires skilled and semi-skilled heavy manual labor and is responsible for maintaining the City's central beach trail, beach facilities, and grounds — including Gulf Front Park, Sunset Vista Park, Beach Pavilion, and related areas — using a variety of tools and equipment. Mow, edge, rake, weed, plant, trim, and clean the beach facilities, central beach trail, parks, and open space areas. Maintain the Central Beach Trail to include daily maintenance of sidewalk surface, sand wall, cigarette dispensers, debris, and trash removal. Provide on-going maintenance of beach trail to including, but not limited to, light fixtures and light bulb removal, educational signs, benches, and trash cans. Inspect and perform daily maintenance and cleaning of all public beach, park restroom facilities, and amenities; maintenance and clean-up duties of Community Center and Beach Pavilion prior to and after rentals, activities, etc. Responsible for minor building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry and other and semi-skilled trades. Use and operate tools and equipment related to construction, maintenance, and repair. Responsible for the cleaning, maintenance and minor repairs of tools andequipment. Dispose of solid waste daily from central beach trail, beach facilities, parks, parking lots and grounds as assigned; pick up litter from premises. Operate the Broyhill to empty Waste Pro cans from public beach facilities and parking lots as needed. Responsible for opening and closing; locking and unlocking facilities asdirected. Set up and break down of various activities, city meetings, events and functions. Enforce city rules, policies and regulations during activities, events and functions. Provide customer service; meet visitors and provide assistance and information as required to all facility or parks users, residents, and visitors. Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for various community events, functions and programs. Inspect and perform daily preventative and corrective maintenance duties for beach facilities, playground equipment, tennis and pickleball courts, and other amenities to ensure safety of users. Inspect and perform daily maintenance and cleaning of the city dog park. Empty island wide dog waste stations weekly and as needed. Attend periodic training sessions, workshops, and conferences as required. Responsible for knowing and applying safe work practices. Responsible for the maintenance of all work tools and vehicles assigned within the division. Performs related work as assigned. Parks & Recreation Maintenance I :
One (1) experience performing similar job duties. Parks & Recreation Maintenance II :
Two (2) years' experience performing similar job duties. An equivalent combination of education, training, andexperience. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
Valid Florida Driver'sLicense. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to safely operate and/or utilize a beach rake, riding mower and mule, backpack blower, stick edger, weed eater, chainsaw, pressure washer, hand tools (i.e. hammers, wrenches, and other equipment as assigned). Knowledge of modern techniques, methods, procedures and practices of maintaining municipal infrastructure. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, possibly in inclement weather. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. Ability to communicate both verbally and written and possess good peopleskills. Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used for minorrepairs. Working knowledge of safetyprecautions. Skilled in operation of specified tools andequipment. Abilitytoworkindependentlyandtocompletedailyactivitiesandtasksaccordingtowork schedule. Ability to conduct manual labor occasionally under adverse weatherconditions. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions. Ability to work flexible hours and weekends Ability to maintain regular attendance and comply with workschedules. Ability to lift more than 60 lbs. on a frequentbasis.
