The employee will assist the Facilities Maintenance Tech, Building Services Supervisor and Facilities Director in performing assorted electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, and painting duties in the maintenance of County facilities.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
(All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.) Assists in a variety of buildings and grounds upkeep duties to include the following: Interior and exterior painting, sheetrock patchwork, office renovations, and furniture relocation. Constructing finished carpentry and woodworking cabinets, workstations, ramps, decks, and frames, and installing counter tops, doors, windows, baseboards and moldings. Troubleshooting and repairing building electrical problems to include; wiring and rewiring of circuits, making electrical connections compliant with current codes, installing and/or repairing light fixtures, changing ballasts in fluorescent light fixtures, repairing or rebuilding motors, maintaining emergency generators, running new conduits, and repairing smoke alarms. Maintaining and repairing heating and air conditioning systems to include; conducting scheduled preventive maintenance on all equipment, performing visual inspections of equipment, maintaining service and repair records, performing seasonal start-ups and shut-downs of HVAC equipment which includes cleaning of coils. Repairing pump assemblies and leaking and control valves. Monitoring of control systems. Performing preventative maintenance of boiler and mechanical rooms. Installing interior and exterior water lines and performing basic plumbing repairs and maintenance. Maintenance of grounds to include; mowing, weeding, trimming, snow removal, painting lines, and replacing lights. Repairing major appliances, mechanical devices, and equipment within County facilities to include; kitchen appliances, doors, locks, small office equipment, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned.MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED

All candidates to fill a vacant position in this classification must submit to and pass a drug-screening test after meeting the following minimum requirements:Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; and, Two years of progressively responsible related experience; or, Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.Licenses and Certifications:
Valid State Driver's License.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Standard practices, materials, tools, and safety hazards and precautions used in various building trades. Principles and practices of heating and air conditioning system repair and maintenance. Principles and practices of carpentry. Principles and practices of plumbing. Principles and practices of electrical power systems. Principles and practices of painting and supplies. Applicable rules and codes relating to the installation and repair of building equipment and fixtures.Skill in:
Communicating clearly and effectively with others. Reading and understanding blue prints and other design drawings. Using a wide range of hand and power tools and equipment. Installing or repairing electrical, HVAC or mechanical parts, components or equipment. Performing skilled trades, such as carpentry or painting.Mental and Physical Abilities to:
Perform heavy manual labor. Read basic wiring diagrams, building plans, and installation instructions. Plan and supervise the work of others. 01/02 Facilities Maintenance Technician Understand and follow written and oral instructions. Hearing ability sufficient to understand conversational tones and respond to telephone ringers. Hearing ability sufficient to recognize changes in sounds made by machinery, equipment, or motors. Vision ability sufficient to see shapes and outlines of objects both near and at a distance; depth perception and color recognition required. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to walk indoors and outdoors, sit at desk and in vehicle or equipment, stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, reach with hands and arms; bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, stoop, and stretch. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to move and/or lift 100 pounds.Working Conditions:
While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, especially in hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, and sun. Also exposed to vibrations, electrical shock, work in high precarious places, explosives, moving and/or mechanical parts, fumes, caustic chemicals, and hazardous substances. The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately loud.file:
