Site Manager Primary Purpose:
The Maintenance Worker ensures the safety, functionality, and upkeep of all buildings and grounds at Waimanalo Emergency Shelter. This hands-on position responds to repair requests, performs scheduled and preventive maintenance, and maintains facility systems to provide a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for families and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect facilities to identify, diagnose, and resolve maintenance issues Plan and execute repair work efficiently and effectively Respond to repair requests within 24 hours, completing all work within 5 business days Perform preventive maintenance to ensure equipment, units, buildings, and property operate at full capacity Repair machines, equipment, and structures as necessary Fix or replace faulty electrical switches, outlets, and circuit breakers Inspect electrical components for safety and functionality Read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams Clean drains and remove obstructions Repair or replace broken plumbing fixtures Repair water, gas, and other piping systems Maintain septic systems and coordinate septic cleaning services Inspect framework, structures, and fixtures Construct and install frameworks, walls, floors, and other structural elements Perform general cleaning and upkeep of buildings and properties Mow lawns and trim hedges Maintain grounds including planting, fertilizing, and weeding Apply pesticides as needed and in accordance with safety regulations Operate and maintain garden and landscaping equipment Order necessary supplies for maintenance and repairs Submit all receipts for purchases associated with repairs Coordinate and schedule scope of work with outside vendors for repairs requiring licensed professionals Maintain comprehensive maintenance log and receipt records Instruct and direct team members as needed Collaborate with Site Manager and other staff to prioritize maintenance needs Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent One to two years of custodian/maintenance experience Degree or certificate from a technical college or program (not required, but preferred) Valid Hawaiʻi driver's license Ability to pass criminal background checks and drug screening
Physical Requirements:
Bending, reaching, lifting, or moving items up to 50 pounds Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments Extended periods of standing, walking, and physical labor Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, chemicals, and toxic fumes Essential Skills & Knowledge Experience and knowledge using hand and power tools Ability to use common tools including hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches Experience with precision measuring instruments and electronic testing devices Ability to disassemble machines, equipment, and devices to remove and replace defective parts Skill in reading blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs Experience performing routine maintenance across multiple systems Knowledge of cleaning products and tools for different surfaces and areas Understanding of electrical, plumbing, and structural systems Familiarity with landscaping equipment and techniques Strong organizational and time-management abilities Detail-oriented approach to work Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills Ability to interact professionally with participants, staff, and service providers Customer service mindset when addressing maintenance concerns
