Non-Exempt Position Summary The Sewer Maintenance Worker performs skilled, routine manual work that can be physically demanding, including maintaining and reconstructing City of Clinton sewer infrastructure and supporting flood-protection devices and related systems. This position may require working an on-call schedule at various times throughout the year and may require overtime. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sewer System Maintenance Inspect and maintain City sewer lines using closed-circuit television equipment, sewer jet trucks, vacuum trucks, and other sewer cleaning equipment. Assist with cleaning, repairing, and rebuilding catch basins and manholes using necessary equipment, which may include concrete repairs and minor carpentry. Respond to Iowa One Call (811) locate requests and use online mapping systems to identify and interpret City-owned sewer infrastructure. Conduct fats, oils, and grease (FOG) inspections at restaurants throughout the City to verify compliance with applicable codes. Flood Control and Waterway Maintenance Maintain the flood-control system, including levee floodgates, railroad closures, and other flood protection equipment. Repair and maintain waterways by removing material from drainage ditches and replacing stone in areas affected by erosion. Trip and maintain trees along creeks, fence lines, and areas subject to Iowa Department of Natural Resources inspections. Equipment and Operational Support Safely develop proficiency in operating heavy equipment to include sewer jet trucks, vacuum trucks, snowplows, and other equipment used to maintain sewer and street systems. Assist operators at the Regional Water Reclamation Facility and at pumping station sites throughout the city. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities High School Diploma or GED Valid Driver's License Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement (Can be obtained after hire) Knowledge of safe work practices and proficiency in heavy equipment operations. Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds regularly, stand for long hours, climb ladders or stairs, work in outdoor conditions, including extreme weather, and the ability to wear required PPE and respiratory protection when necessary. Work Schedule Day shift with rotating weekend and holiday on-call coverage as assigned to ensure continuous facility operation. Overtime may be required to maintain operations
Salary and Benefits:
Generous benefit package including paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS) contributions, and group health/dental/life insurance. Vision insurance, long-term disability insurance, and flexible health/dependent care spending plan contributions can be purchased through payroll deduct. Hourly salary rates range from $24.59 to $31.62. Salary is dependent on qualifications at the time of hire.
