The Highway Seasonal Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing general highway maintenance duties that keep INDOT assets in good working condition to ensure customer satisfaction. This includes but is not limited to fleet, facilities, bridges, culverts, roadway, and right-of-way maintenance activities.Location:
This position is with INDOT's Elkhart Unit.Pay Rate:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.CDL Positions:
Candidates with a current CDL will earn an additional $1 per hour for this position. Candidates without a CDL will be given 90 days to obtain their CDL, with training provided by INDOT, and will then earn an additional $1 per hour upon successfully obtaining their CDL. A Day in theLife:
Complies with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures; Operates basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-ways; Moves and loads supplies and materials; Performs emergency response activities such as: clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades; Performs equipment maintenance such as: minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections; Performs miscellaneous labor tasks; Performs other related job duties as assigned. What You'll Need forSuccess:
Must possesses a valid driver's license Working knowledge of appropriate safety practices associated with repair and maintenance heavy equipment, vehicles and/or motorized equipment. Knowledge of heavy and light duty vehicle and equipment use and maintenance. Skill in operating hand & power tools related to use & maintenance of vehicles & equipment. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to complete records and reports. Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly. Ability to follow directions and work as a part of a team. Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time. Ability to carrying out basic functions on the computer. Ability to work in a multi-functional team. Benefits of Employment with theState of Indiana:
