Public Service Worker I - Water/Sewer Department (Express) Express Employment Professionals is accepting applications at 2009 North Penn Avenue for a PSW I position for work at the City of Independence Water/Sewer Department. Basic Function Under supervision, performs a variety of manual labor in the construction and maintenance of streets, parks, airport, and other municipal buildings or grounds. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Mows and trim lawns and brush Picks-up and disposes of trash and brush Drives vehicles and operates light equipment Maintains city vehicles Repairs streets, manholes, street signs, and water and sewer lines Installs water meters and dig meter boxes Services airport equipment and grounds Assists with maintenance of Memorial Hall as needed Performs additional duties as assigned Qualifications Ability to perform heavy manual labor Some knowledge of maintenance of public grounds and facilities Ability to operate trucks and light equipment Knowledge of operation and maintenance of trucks, light equipment and lawn care tools Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions Ability to work well with a small team Education and Experience Completion of high school or GED required One year of experience as a laborer or maintenance worker preferred Special Requirements A current Kansas driver's license Must be available to work nights, overtime, and weekends Physical Requirements Intense physical effort is required. Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time. Working Conditions Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.

SALARY RANGE

The starting salary for this position is $14.00 per hour
