A Maintenance Helper or Assistant assists maintenance mechanics. Repairs and maintains equipment and machines, such as cars or heating systems. May assemble or adjust machines as directed by a head mechanic.
We're looking for a reliable, hands-on individual to help take care of our 150-acre outdoor education center, located one mile east of 399th Street and U.S. Highway 69 in La Cygne, Kansas. The job includes general upkeep of the property including five bunkhouses, a commercial kitchen and dining hall, a swimming pool, and several multipurpose buildings. This is a part-time, seasonal position that's ideal for someone with experience in facility maintenance, construction trades, landscaping, or a related skilled trade who enjoys a variety of indoor and outdoor work. Description Responsibilities:
Perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and other general building trades. Perform seasonal grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, pond care, road maintenance, invasive species management, and basic timber management. Operate landscaping equipment, hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Inspect facilities and grounds to identify maintenance needs and help resolve issues promptly. Follow all safety policies and procedures while maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation. Assist with camp and event setup, snow removal (seasonally), and other duties as needed.
Job Requirements:
Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscaping, or a related trade is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, lawn and landscaping equipment, and other maintenance equipment. Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and work independently with minimal supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment. Positive attitude and willingness to assist with a variety of maintenance and groundskeeping tasks.
Work Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must successfully pass applicable pre-employment background checks. Valid driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle record check to operate camp vehicles, including trucks with trailers is required. Required to work in indoor and outdoor settings including the need to navigate irregular terrain and walk a minimum of one mile daily in all weather conditions. May be regularly required to stand for extended periods of time, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and perform equipment maintenance. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Work Schedule:
Part-time up to 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Evening and/or weekend availability may be required for occasional scheduled events or rare unplanned emergencies. Salary $17 - $20 per hour
