Job Description

Maintenance Assistant / Skilled Maintenance Helper We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Assistant to help maintain our assisted living community as a safe, attractive, comfortable, and homelike place for the residents we serve. This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in completing projects correctly, and appreciates seeing the positive difference that well-maintained surroundings make in the lives of older adults. You will work under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and assist with a variety of maintenance, repair, apartment preparation, and facility-upkeep responsibilities. Main Responsibilities Perform minor repairs and general maintenance throughout the community. Assist with painting, touch-ups, patching, and other apartment-preparation work. Clean and prepare apartments for new residents. Replace light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, and resident call-light components as assigned. Change or clean HVAC filters according to schedule. Assist with floor and carpet care. Respond promptly and courteously to resident maintenance requests. Maintain tools, equipment, carts, maintenance supplies, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, water leaks, or other concerns. Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with special projects and emergency needs. Provide occasional housekeeping support when needed to help maintain a clean and comfortable community. Preferred Skills and Qualifications Experience as a maintenance helper, handyman, apartment-maintenance assistant, facilities assistant, painter, or similar position. Practical knowledge of basic repairs, painting, lighting maintenance, floor care, and the safe use of common hand and power tools. Ability to recognize maintenance problems and follow instructions for completing repairs safely. Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship. Dependable attendance, good judgment, personal integrity, and a positive work ethic. Ability to work independently and read product instructions and safety information. Patience, courtesy, and a genuine desire to work around and assist elderly residents. High school diploma or GED preferred. Ability to bend, stoop, stand, walk, reach, and lift or carry items weighing up to approximately 40 pounds. State law requires a background check and cites many offenses that prohibit us from hiring. Our Working Environment Our community is more than a workplace—it is home to the residents we serve. Maintenance employees are an important part of creating an atmosphere where residents feel comfortable, respected, and secure. You will be part of a supportive team that values: Respectful and courteous treatment of residents and coworkers. Cooperation between maintenance, housekeeping, caregiving, and administrative staff. Careful workmanship and attention to residents' concerns. A clean, attractive, and homelike environment. Integrity, dependability, safety, and a positive attitude. The satisfaction that comes from completing meaningful work and helping others. We are looking for someone who does not simply see a repair request as another task, but understands that keeping a resident's apartment and community in excellent condition helps protect that resident's comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Full-time position . Applicants who have solid mechanical aptitude and a willingness to develop additional maintenance skills are also encouraged to apply. EOE.
