Description The Battle Creek Housing Commission (BCHC) is accepting applications for 2 open positions as a General Maintenance Technician. Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, this role is responsible for the upkeep and repair of BCHC facilities, including general maintenance, cleaning, painting, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, lawn care, and other related property maintenance tasks Essential Functions Perform general maintenance activities on buildings, grounds, and equipment. Conduct custodial and janitorial tasks, ensuring cleanliness and safety. Operate power tools and hand tools related to building maintenance and repair. Drive business vehicles and operate power lawn machinery (valid driver's license required). Perform groundskeeping duties such as mowing, weed trimming, and trash removal. Inspect and maintain mechanical systems, documenting service records. Perform semi-skilled work in carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing. Conduct maintenance and service activities on HVAC and related equipment. Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation for emergency maintenance needs. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Prior experience in general maintenance, custodial work, or construction-related fields. Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in general maintenance work. Familiarity with power tools, mechanical operations, and groundskeeping equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately. Strong mechanical aptitude, initiative, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Must provide own basic tools for maintenance tasks. Must pass a drug screening and criminal background check.
