MAINTENANCE OPERATOR II
Department of Public Works - Dearborn, MI 48120 Start Date 04/01/2026 End Date 04/10/2026 Apply Overview Salary Range $56,361.00 - $73,896.00 Salary/year Position Type Full Time Apply DescriptionCLASS SUMMARY
This position is responsible for operating various equipment to maintain assigned areas. May act as lead worker to employees in lower classifications.TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES
(These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.) 1. Operates vehicles and equipment to maintain streets, including: operating a sweeper to clean streets; salting streets; plowing streets; cold patching and paving streets; and/or performing related tasks. 2. Operates equipment related to tree maintenance, including: operating log trucks to remove trees; using a wood chipper; and/or performing related tasks. 3. Operates equipment to apply pesticides to grounds. 4. Performs standard repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles. 5. Maintains playground equipment and skating rinks; may set up for special events. 6. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings. QualificationsTRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and 2 years of related experience; or, all required certification(s); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
- Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License Class A
- Pesticide License 3A, 3B, 6, and Right of Way
KNOWLEDGE
- Methods of operating various vehicles, equipment, and tools;
- Applicable tools and equipment;
- Safe work methods;
- Performing repairs;
- Methods of applying pesticides;
- Computers and applicable systems.
SKILLS:
- Using related tools and equipment;

- Applying pesticides;
- Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.Very Heavy Work:
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
