Job Description
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Performs intermediate level maintenance work necessary for the upkeep, repair and renovation of the roadways, grounds, equipment, and facilities of the VFW National Home. Operates vehicles and equipment as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly responsible to the Facilities Supervisor and Facilities Director. Responsible for learning and abiding by agency and MIOSHA safety rules and regulations. Responsible for maintaining a hazard-free, safe campus environment, maintenance area and work site
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or G.E.D. or demonstrated successful work experience in the characteristic duties.

Abilities :
1. Ability to do regular squatting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds required. 2. Perform the characteristic duties as outlined in the job description. 3. Follow directions of supervisor. 4. Solve problems where mechanical ability is necessary. 5. Able to follow instructions and complete work assignments in a timely fashion with or without direct supervision. 6. Able to independently perform intermediate level maintenance tasks. 7. Able to instruct others in the characteristic duties of the position. 8. Possess a valid Michigan drivers license. 9. Work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends when required. 10. Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, visitors, and staff. 11. Ability to learn new maintenance skills when instructed, and apply knowledge in similar situations. 12. Excellent work performance, attitude, dependability, and attendance.
Skills :
1. Able to perform intermediate level plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, welding, and heating and air conditioning system repair. 2. Water Treatment Certification and demonstrated skills are desirable.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum:
One year of demonstrated successful experience working in a Maintenance Worker I position at the VFW National Home preferred. (2 years of related experience if obtained elsewhere). A combination of education, certifications, abilities, skills and experience will be considered.
