JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing maintenance work at Public Works.
MAJOR DUTIES
Repairs, installs and maintains streets including pavement, curbs and sidewalks. Maintains public right of way including mowing, spraying of weeds and trash collection. Installs and maintains street signage. Maintains streetlights and traffic signals. Assists in the removal of snow and ice. Repairs water mains, valves, fire hydrants, water meters and other appurtenances. Repairs sanitary sewers, manholes, lift stations and other appurtenances. Restores city rights of way and private property disturbed by construction; performs concrete and asphalt repairs to restore property to usable condition. Serves on call every third week and more frequently as needed. On call requires a 30 minute response time. Cross-trains with other divisions and assists as needed. Serves on call for snow/ice operations. Operates heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, excavators, bucket trucks, dump trucks and boom mowers under direct supervision. Operates other equipment including hand tools, saws, mowers, weed eaters and other equipment under direct supervision. Build and maintain tactful, effective/positive working relationship with co-workers, other city employees and the public. Foster and contribute to a work environment that supports and exhibits honesty, diversity, integrity, trust and respect. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of safety rules and precautions in equipment operations. Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Skill in the operation of light equipment. Skill in carrying out oral and written instructions. Skill in working independently or as a crewmember. Skill in performing routine and preventative maintenance on equipment. Skill in responding to call backs Skill in working in adverse weather conditions. Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid CDL Class B driver's license with air brake and tank vehicle endorsements within 6 months of hire.
