POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is seeking a service-oriented Grounds Maintenance & Operations Assistant to join the team at McDowell Nature Preserve! This position will perform day-to-day maintenance activities in any of the maintenance areas, including but not limited to grounds maintenance and landscaping within the Preserves. In addition, the incumbent will also be responsible for upkeep of our Preserves facilities, ensuring that they remain optimal sites for community events and recreation. This temporary position will work at least 16 hours per weekend with a schedule primarily consisting of weekends with occasional weekday and holidays dependent on business needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets Perform general custodial work Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches

General knowledge of applicable computer programs

Knowledge:

Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment Basic tools used in maintenance and construction work

Skills:

Operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers, and other assigned equipment Performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
