Job Description

Performs manual labor cleaning, sweeping, cutting, weeding, and/or digging at multiple areas throughout the City of Kinston. Must be able to use or learn to use equipment needed to do maintenance work. Work could include parks and facilities. Reports to Crew Leader in department. Assist with maintaining vehicles and equipment. Assist with maintenance of city facilities. Assist with maintaining land and grounds (i.e. mowing, weeding, landscaping, pruning, planting). Performs related tasks as required. Demonstrates good judgment and sound decision making skills in emergency situations. Ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions. Experience, or ability to learn, working with hand and yard tools, lawn mowers, shop hand and power tools, small tractors, and other equipment. Ability to get along with others. Must be 18 years of age. Must possess a valid North Carolina drivers license. This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently standing, walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. streets, parks).
