Job Description

Example of Duties:
Under general supervision, performs unskilled to semi-skilled specialized work for the County's Water Distribution Department. Works involves installing and repairing water distribution lines and services, operating equipment and tools to complete work Employee must exercise initiative and some independent judgment in completing assigned tasks. Employee must also exercise tact, courtesy and firmness in working in contact with customers and the general public. Reports to the Water Distribution Supervisor.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma; 1-year experience in waterline installation or repair work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid North Carolina driver's license required upon hire and duration of employment. Out of state driver's license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state. Must obtain a valid North Carolina CDL Class "A" License within eighteen (18) months and maintain for the duration of employment. Out of state driver's license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state. While employee is in trainee status, employee will be paid at grade 66. When employee acquires the Class A CDL the pay grade will change to grade 69. Trainee status will still be applied. Water Distribution Maintenance Worker I status will be applied when employee acquires Class C Distribution certification the pay grade will change to grade 70. Water Distribution Maintenance Worker II status will be applied when employee acquires Class B Distribution certification. Acquiring Class B certification will change to grade 71. Water Distribution Maintenance Worker Senior status will be applied when employee acquires Class A Distribution certification. Acquiring Class A certification will change to grade 72. Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. A criminal background check must be completed by the County of Robeson for potential applicants.
