Job Description

Person County Government is seeking a dependable, motivated, and hands-on Maintenance Worker II to support the upkeep, appearance, safety, and day-to-day operations of the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex . This position is an important part of ensuring that County facilities, grounds, and public spaces remain clean, safe, attractive, functional, and welcoming for residents, visitors, community organizations, and event attendees. Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy. If the position you are applying for requires a degree, education verification will be required as part of the hiring process. This is a non-exempt position. Part-time employees cannot work more than 1000 hours per calendar year. The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Repair of lighting and soundboards. Provides general construction duties, by way of painting, repairing, and stage repair as needed. Builds set pieces for Kirby productions. Pours concrete to repair sidewalks, create slabs, and for other needs. Basic light electric repairs. Operates light to medium sized motorized equipment. Makes minor repairs and performs preventative maintenance to motorized equipment. Provides maintenance as needed for plumbing system. Operates a variety of hand and specialty tools associated with the carpentry trade fields. Trims and edges around walkways, flower beds and fences; power and hand tools; and assigns or carries out preparation of Kirby facility for scheduled programs. Completes time sheets, material sheets, and basic activity reports. Set up of tables/chairs for events. Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and all other general cleanings of facilities. Performs related work as assigned. Graduation from high school and some experience in grounds work, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
