Under the direct supervision of the Foreman and with indirect oversight from the Director of Asset Management & STS, this position involves performing a range of basic to moderately demanding physical tasks for the cleaning and upkeep of offices, furniture, buildings, and grounds. Additionally, the role may include assisting with minor building or equipment repairs, along with other related duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Responsible for cleaning and maintaining various areas including offices, common areas, hallways, stairwells, elevators, restrooms, and public entrances. Tasks include dusting and polishing furniture, fixtures, and equipment; washing windows; sweeping, mopping, waxing, and polishing floors; vacuuming rugs; performing light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs or washing walls; and occasionally working on ladders or scaffolds for tasks like replacing venetian blinds or cleaning light fixtures. Ø Provides support to maintenance teams, including carrying tools and materials, setting up and removing ladders, cleaning up after repairs, and assisting with simple tasks such as clearing debris or assisting in minor repairs as directed by maintenance personnel. Ø Moves and arranges heavy equipment, furniture, and supplies, including items weighing up to fifty pounds. Performs physically demanding tasks such as mopping, scraping, and cleaning heavy substances from floors, and lifting and transporting items like refrigerators, stoves, and office furniture. Ø Operates and maintains cleaning machinery, ensuring it is properly cleaned, oiled, and equipped with necessary accessories. Assists with the upkeep and minor repairs of cleaning equipment. Ø Performs basic groundskeeping duties, including lawn mowing, hedge trimming, leaf raking, snow shoveling, salting or sanding icy surfaces, and cleaning outdoor walkways. Assists with planting, watering, and maintaining flower beds and landscaping. Ø Assists with minor building repairs or maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, filters, air conditioning units, cleaning HVAC systems or vents, and performing checks on plumbing fixtures for leaks. Ø Assists with waste management duties, including collecting and disposing of trash and recyclables from various locations, ensuring cleanliness of waste disposal areas, and following safety guidelines for disposal of hazardous materials. Ø May perform seasonal maintenance tasks, such as preparing HVAC systems for summer or winter months, sealing windows, and checking insulation for efficiency.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/License:
Ø High school diploma or equivalent GED. Ø Minimum one year of related maintenance work experience.
Knowledge and abilities:
Ø Familiar with the tools and materials used for cleaning, waxing, vacuuming, and polishing various surfaces such as wood, tile, cement, linoleum, glass, and other furniture and fixtures. Ø Basic understanding of the proper use and minor maintenance of cleaning equipment, including sweepers, vacuum cleaners, floor waxers, compactors, lawn mowers, and snow blowers. Ø Ability to address cleaning challenges, move and lift moderately heavy objects, efficiently organize cleaning tasks, and develop effective work methods. Ø Able to follow and execute both oral and written instructions, maintain simple records, quickly learn from demonstrations, and collaborate effectively with coworkers. Ø Capable of maintaining buildings, lobbies, stairwells, offices, units, public areas, and grounds in a clean, hygienic, and orderly condition. Committed to safety and reporting potential hazards.
