Job Description

Library Maintenance Worker Reports to
Assistant Director & Director Part Time:
3 hrs per day, Mon-Fri afternoons from approx. 3-6 pm (can be slightly flexible) The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.
Summary:
Under direct supervision, safely assists library administrators with various building improvement projects and tasks, a variety of minor building repairs, custodial and cleaning duties and general upkeep of library property.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Weekly dusting of the interior of the library including, but not limited to, OPAC stands, stairway railings and ledges, window ledges, all public service desks, patron computer and study/tutoring areas and all manner of library furniture, ceilings and ceiling corners, shelving and materials displays. Daily maintenance of the library's exterior grounds pertaining, but not limited to, trimming, leaf-blowing, trash and debris cleanup. Janitorial duties as needed including window cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, refilling soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, etc. On-call maintenance of library restrooms at the discretion of library administrators. Assists with setup of and participation in library programs as needed, both in-house and off-site. In addition to library's regular snow removal vendor, provides additional snow removal and de-icing as required. On-call assistance with general physical tasks and wide variety of miscellaneous work requests as required by administrators. Responsible, under the discretion and supervision of library administrators, for a wide variety of building repairs, maintenance, cleaning and improvements, including but not limited to: painting, repair of building furniture and general infrastructure, assembly of newly purchased library furniture and other items, maintenance of library walls, ceilings, desks, shelving and flooring.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. No experience necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Ability to understand simple oral and written instructions in English Ability to be accurate when assembling, receiving and understanding information and instructions, especially in regard to facilities terminology and understanding. Ability to work independently and problem solve. Ability to organize work and to pay attention to details. Possesses a basic-level understanding of a variety of buildings and grounds issues. Basic understanding and familiarity with a wide scope of tools. Thorough understanding of common systems of measurement. Performs all required responsibilities with the safety of oneself and of fellow employees as an utmost concern. Under the supervision of library administrators, undertakes all responsibilities and materials disposals with concern and forethought for the local natural environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Work is performed in all areas of the library's interior and exterior property. The position is 3 hours per day monday through friday in afternoon, approximately 3-6 pm. Moderate to extreme physical activity; requires lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 150 lbs. The work involves walking, stretching, bending, reaching above your head, physical dexterity, and being on your feet for much of the entire shift.
