Family Service League is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker for a homeless shelter in Brentwood, NY. Under supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for the maintenance of the interior and exterior of property and grounds, in accordance with Suffolk County regulations. Responsible for repair and maintenance of all facility equipment and structure.

RESPONSIBILITIESThe maintenance worker will prepare rooms for occupancy, including hanging sheet rock, spackle, painting, and routine maintenance.

Perform electrical and structural repairs or installations.

Perform mid-level plumbing duties: snake lines, remove and install toilets, and repair leaking pipes in ceilings, walls or under countertops.

Conduct regularly scheduled safety checks externally and internally throughout the building, including all equipment. Perform or schedule repairs as necessary.

The maintenance worker will maintain the interior of the property by performing routine maintenance tasks, including removal and replacement of light bulbs and ceiling tiles, unclogging drains, drywall repair and painting. Notify Property Manager timely of the need for repairs or replacement of equipment or furniture.

The maintenance worker will perform heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.

Maintaining the exterior of the property by blowing leaves, picking up trash and debris, sweeping, trimming, weeding, and removing snow and ice. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED required.

A minimum of 3 years experience performing building maintenance and repairs is required. This includes demonstrated experience in electrical, plumbing, spackle and paint, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, and groundskeeping.

Knowledge of the Suffolk County Department of Social Services requirements is preferred.

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, are required. Knowledge of Facilities Management software preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.

Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required. Clean, valid, NYS Driver's License required.

OSHA certificate or training preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to pick up and carry a minimum of 50 lbs., be able to work overhead and on a ladder for sustained periods of time, and to bend and crouch to install flooring or seal tubs and toilets. Must be able to shovel snow from walkways. Must be able to go up and down stairs.
