Wastewater Maintenance Worker

WASTEWATER PLANT MAINTENANCE WORKER DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The incumbent performs a variety of minor maintenance on lift station equipment and wastewater treatment plant equipment. Work is performed under the general direction of Maintenance Mechanic I or II. Most of the duties are performed without any direct supervision. Special knowledge relating to the dewatering of sludge requiring a knowledge of the mixing of polymer solutions and the operation of a variety of pumps and related equipment. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

(Illustrative only) Maintains lifting station equipment by performing minor maintenance on pumps, floats and tubes, and plant equipment; Maintains lifting station grounds and buildings; Records timer readings and pump data records and other related records; Operates sludge dewatering equipment such as belt presses, centrifuges, etc.; Collects wastewater samples from a variety of designated sites and locations; Inspects and lubricates the dike stations; Cleans and generally maintains automotive equipment, all plant and station equipment and grounds.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of the operation of a wastewater treatment plant and lift station equipment; good knowledge of maintenance practices and procedures; good knowledge of procedures used to dewater sludge; good knowledge of the practices and procedures used to mix polymer solutions; good knowledge of safety precautions used in and around assigned equipment; ability to operate pumps and make adjustments; ability to follow simple oral and written instructions; mechanical aptitude; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or possession of a NYS high school equivalency diploma.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Possession of a New York State driver's license or otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the job in a timely and efficient manner. Revised 5/05/95

Pay:

$23.56 - $26.93 per hour
