Job Description

The City of Hamilton is an

  • Gas and Water Distribution classification, an open competitive exam will be administered through CPS HR Consulting. This examination will be an Online Remote Proctored exam and will be administered the week of Friday, July 17th
  • Friday, July 24th.
More exam information will be sent to candidates upon receipt of their application. Candidates will be tested on the following subjects: Reading and applying general information Tools and Equipment Mathematical Ability Safe Work Practices Applicants must obtain a valid Class B or higher Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire. YOU MUST APPLY SEPARATELY FOR EACH CLASSIFICATION THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN.
This is semi-skilled manual work involving the use of hand tools, power tools, and various types of motorized equipment in the repair and maintenance of Gas and Water Facilities. Employees are responsible for performing vigorous manual labor under all weather conditions. Work is normally performed under the supervision of a crew leader who issues verbal instructions, provides instruction in difficult tasks, and checks work frequently, the direct supervisor for this position is Gas and Water Supervisor. Assists in maintaining the Gas and Water Distribution System. Responds to emergency calls or complaints. Operates various types of trucks, equipment, and a variety of hand tools in gas and water assignments. Assists in installing gas and water mains, making taps, installing services, curb valves, curb boxes and cutting and threading gas pipes. Prepares work site; may use jackhammer or concrete saw to cut pavement; may dig an excavation manually or after backhoe has done preliminary digging. Performs related work as required. Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks without close supervision Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under all weather conditions Ability to follow oral instructions Knowledge of vehicular equipment and safety. Ability to get along well with fellow employees and the public. Skill in the use of various hand tools
Minimum Qualifications:
Six (6) Months experience as a laborer or in construction Ability to obtain or currently possess a Valid Class B, or Higher, Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
