Service Department Worker

Candidates must successfully complete a DOT physical, background check, and drug screen prior to hire. 2026 hourly pay rate, per collective bargaining agreement: Service Worker 1 $28.47 Service Worker 2 $25.72 (start rate with CDL) Service Worker 3 $22.95 (must obtain CDL in first 6 months of employment) Reporting to the Service Director, the Service Worker will be assigned a variety of City maintenance, improvement, and beautification work using various equipment, vehicles, and tools. Service Workers assist with all Service Department and City work as needed. This position requires some evening, weekend, and emergency call-out hours as needed. Duties and Responsibilities This description and list of duties is not to be construed as all-inclusive: other duties may be assigned and required. Specific tasks may include but are not limited to:

• Landscaping o City grass cutting, trimming, edging o Planting, mulching and fertilizing of grass and flowers o Tree trimming, removal and planting o Stump grinding and removal o Storm damage debris, tree removal and clean-up
• Streets o Patching pot holes and crack sealing o Cleveland Water dig job repairs o Replacing concrete from start to finish on city streets and curbs o Removal of dead animals o Car accident and oil spills cleanup o Cleanup of any garbage littering the streets
• Sewers o Flushing out city mains o Snaking storm lines o Repairing laterals o Locating tees o Using a camera to locate tees and find any damage in sewer lines o Catch basins and manhole repairs o Storm damage cleanup Traffic and signs o Maintain traffic control devices, i.e. traffic signals, o walk/don't walk signals, school flashers o Painting of cross walks and turn arrows o Work zone setup
• Maintenance o Cleaning of trucks o Sand blasting trucks and salt bodies o Clean garage o Mopping floors, vacuuming
• Seasonal o Leaf pick-up o Snow removal in parking lots and streets o Salting bridges by hand, cleaning sidewalks and crossing guard corners o Holiday lights and decorations around city buildings o Flags and banners put up around the city for events o Old tires, paint, hazardous materials and oil roundups. Package for pick-up.
• City Buildings and Facilities o Maintenance of interior and exterior o Plumbing, carpentry o Painting and wallpapering o Weather proofing o Repair of sump pump, toilets, sinks and drains
• Miscellaneous o Extensive public contact o Assist other departments o Board up of abandoned and fire damaged houses Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with acceptable driving record preferred.
