Job Description Summary:
Responsible for providing a safe, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing environment for the delivery of high quality, compassionate healthcare at the lowest possible cost by maintaining facility systems and equipment fully functional at all times. Responsible for performing minor repairs, general preventive maintenance, touring, monitoring and reporting abnormal conditions. Interacts with patients and patient's families including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics in the course of their normal maintenance duties. Contact is frequent but usually limited to an explanation of maintenance services rendered and common courtesies. Under the direction of the supervisor and more advanced or higher level maintenance mechanics, this position will work 5 days a week and 8 hours a day in the performance of their responsibilities. This position is subject to work all shifts, weekends and holidays with frequent calls back at any time without notice. This is not an on-call position. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs minor corrective maintenance on building systems and equipment such as replacing ballasts, light bulbs and ceiling tile; adjusting room temperature; clearing sink, commode, and building drains; repairing toilets, faucets, doors, and furniture. Performs preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment such as replacing filters, and belts; lubricating rotating machinery; cleaning; and painting. Responds to emergency situations to include mechanical equipment failure, fires, and security assistance. Notifies appropriate personnel of situations requiring immediate attention. Communicates frequently and effectively with customers concerning the status of repairs. Takes routine rounds of the building including equipment rooms, roofs, exteriors, and boiler room to ascertain the condition of building systems and equipment. Makes repairs or writes corrective work requests. Orders supplies and maintains inventory at appropriate levels to keep vital systems operating at all times. Monitors alarm panels, computerized energy management system, and tube system. Informs appropriate persons of abnormal conditions. Assists higher-rated maintenance mechanics in the performance of their responsibilities. Completes logs and records. Participates in hospital and departmental training and completes all mandatory in-services. Enters work requests and work request updates into the computerized maintenance management system. Boiler attendant/monitor as may be necessary and assigned. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION
Journeyman's License is desired in one area but is not required.
EXPERIENCE
This is an entry-level Plant Operation and Maintenance position. No prior work experience is required. One year of work in a maintenance position is desired.
