This position plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Maintenance Assistant will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties while supporting the university's mission of Christian higher education. Duties Perform general maintenance and repair of campus buildings, classrooms, offices, residence halls, and common areas. Assist with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, and minor HVAC repairs. Complete routine preventative maintenance on university facilities and equipment. Set up and tear down tables, chairs, staging, and equipment for campus events. Maintain campus grounds, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, and seasonal cleanup. Assist with snow and ice removal when necessary. Respond promptly to maintenance work orders and emergency repair requests. Perform routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns. Operate maintenance equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely. Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and office relocations. Ensure campus facilities remain clean, orderly, and presentable. Follow all OSHA safety regulations and university safety policies. Work collaboratively with other Facilities personnel and university departments. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities. Experience Proven experience in facilities maintenance or a related field within manufacturing or commercial environments. Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience repairing electrical equipment, plumbing systems, HVAC units, and building interior components. Familiarity with schematics, technical manuals, CMMS software, and diagnostic tools like ohmmeters. Skilled in painting (including residential painting), plumbing system repair, and electrical work. Supervisory or leadership experience is preferred to assist in guiding junior team members or overseeing projects. Knowledge of maintenance procedures for facilities equipment including HVAC systems (repair & troubleshooting), electrical systems (installation & repair), plumbing (system maintenance & leak repairs), and building interior upkeep. Experience working with maintenance tools such as hand tools, schematics reading skills, and diagnostic instruments like ohmmeters. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. One to three years of general maintenance, construction, facilities, or related experience preferred. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot and complete minor repairs independently. Valid Oklahoma driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work with minimal supervision. Strong customer service and communication skills. Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential. Physical Requirements Frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, crawl, and work in confined spaces. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and power tools. Work Schedule This is a full-time position. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday; however, occasional evenings, weekends, or special event support may be required.
