Job Description
Overview The Detention Center Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout secure facilities, including housing units, administrative areas, medical spaces, and common areas. Will supervise inmate workers and will routinely be around prisoners. Key Responsibilities Supervise - will supervise inmate workers in the completion of the following tasks or may be required to perform the duties personally. Facility Cleaning — Sweep, mop, scrub, and disinfect floors, hallways, restrooms, and common areas within secure and non-secure zones. Sanitation Protocols — Clean and disinfect high‑touch surfaces, holding cells, visitation rooms, and intake areas following health and safety guidelines. Waste Management — Collect, sort, and dispose of trash, biohazard waste, and recyclables according to facility regulations. Supply Maintenance — Restock cleaning supplies, track inventory, and report shortages or equipment issues. Equipment Operation — Safely operate cleaning machines such as buffers, extractors, and pressure washers. Security Compliance — Follow all security procedures, maintain awareness of surroundings, and report unusual activity to correctional staff. Emergency Response — Assist with cleanup after incidents, spills, or emergencies as directed by supervisors. Documentation — Complete cleaning logs, maintenance reports, and incident notes accurately. Qualifications Must pass a background check!
