Job Description

Job Overview The Operations Department is responsible for maintaining all township property, equipment, trucks, roads, pedestrian bridges, culverts, stormwater facilities, park and recreation facilities and a yard waste recycling yard. The Parks Maintenance Worker is an hourly position within the Operations/Parks Department. It is a semi-skilled position requiring experience in operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and parks facilities. The position also includes manual labor duties in the general maintenance of all township facilities, parks, trails and other properties. Various types of light and heavy motorized equipment are used in landscaping, snow removal and other generalized work. Work will sometimes be conducted in extreme weather conditions. The position reports to the Parks and Open Space Maintenance Steward.
Essential Job Duties:
The Park Maintenance position is a full-time, seasonal position who will assist in the maintenance of all public park and trail facilities in East Pikeland Township.
This includes the following functions:
Landscaping and grounds maintenance work (mowing, removing weeds, planting and trimming trees, bushes, and plants as directed, etc.) Make improvements to existing trails (clearing, trail building, etc.) Equipment/building/facility maintenance Oversee the safety of all park facilities and structures (play equipment, ball courts, trails, parking lots, bathrooms, buildings, fences, kiosks/signs, tables and benches, etc.). General repairs to plumbing, carpentry and electrical systems. Prepare facilities for township-sponsored community events. Perform other duties relating to park, trail and road maintenance as assigned. This position also serves as a member of the Public Works on-call and snow removal team.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Abilities:
Ability to operate a range of on-road, off-road, and farm vehicles, including mowers, gators, tractors and similar equipment. Must have valid driver's license. Familiarity with the operation and safety of a variety of hand tools both electric and fuel powered tools. An understanding of basic plant and tree care. Knowledge and ability to maintain equipment following service intervals and preventative maintenance. Perform landscape maintenance tasks (weeding, raking, shoveling, digging, etc.) Competently and safely operate 4x4 vehicles (pickups). Perform strenuous work outdoors in all weather conditions. Walk a minimum of two miles on uneven terrain. Lift, carry, pull and push a minimum of 50 pounds unaided.
Communication/Other:
Excellent communication skills with both the public and co-workers. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Must be reliable, hardworking, and safety conscious. Qualifications Ability to operate a motor vehicle with valid Pennsylvania Driver License. Experience or education in a landscape or park-related field would be preferred. Experience in snow removal is preferred. Knowledge of or the ability to learn light, medium and heavy equipment operating procedures. Experience in the operation of various pieces of equipment, the repair and maintenance of motorized equipment, or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations including but not limited to lifting heavy objects and/or working under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time. Ability to walk, crouch, climb ladders and exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds frequently. Ability to cooperate with co-workers on group tasks. Ability to demonstrate polite and courteous manner toward the general public. Ability to maintain appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment consistent with Township safety standards. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. High School Diploma or equivalent
Pay:
$22.00 - $25.00 per hour
