Job Description

Job Responsibilities •

•Performs manual labor to assist with installing and repairing catch basins and other drainage structures and placing drainage pipes. Performs manual labor in a variety of activities associated with the construction, repair, and preservation of bridges. Performs a variety of vegetation management activities using equipment such as powered hand tools such as chain saws, weed eaters, and backpack herbicide sprayers. Picks up litter, debris, and dead animals. Assists with placing traffic control devices to properly up a maintenance work zone. Serves as a flagger to safely direct and control traffic in these maintenance activities. Performs construction, repair, and preservation of asphalt and concrete pavements using proper repair techniques. This work involves using hand or pneumatic-powered tools and compaction equipment. Assists with installing and repairing traffic signs, pavement markings, and safety devices such as guardrails. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Minimum and Additional Requirements There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
Necessary Special Requirement:
A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position. The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather. Additional Comments Applications accepted on-line at careers.sc.gov.
