Job Description

The City of McMinnville Police Department is looking for an initiative driven individual who has a passion for working outdoors. This position executes the care and maintenance of the trees and landscape areas throughout the City of McMinnville. An ideal candidate will be self-starter with initiative who is a multi-tasker. The position performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled construction maintenance and landscaping work using hand and pneumatic tools. This salary for this position is paid based on experience with a minimum starting salary of $38,043. The schedule is Monday through Friday, eight (8) hours per day. The City of McMinnville offers great benefits and time off. The City pays over 85% of employees' medical premium plus offers a wellness and tobacco free discount on the monthly premium up to $150. Life Insurance for the employee and family and long-term disability for the employee is covered at no charge to the employee.
Vision / Dental
and short-term disability is available. The City also offers an ample amount of paid time off. Annual time is accrued 48 hours year one increasing to 96 hours in year two plus 48 hours of personal time. Sick time is accrued monthly beginning day one. The City also offers a retirement plan through TCRS with a 401k.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
High School degree Two (2) three (3) years of experience in tree, landscape and lawn maintenance with knowledge of the use of landscape pesticides Possession of a valid operator's license Physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Ability to execute landscape designs from design documents or verbal instruction Learn and use specific methods in the care and maintenance of trees, shrubs and flowering plants Assist, direct, and work alone on basic projects involving tree and landscape care and maintenance Digging, planting, mulching, pruning, spraying, watering, and other duties needed for landscape maintenance Mowing and coordination of mowing on city-owned property and city rights-of-way locations Maintain city-owned buildings by cleaning, fixing, and mowing grounds; same duties will be necessary in other areas as required Maintain equipment including hand and power tools and equipment Communicate with the public on landscaping advice Assists with educational programs, record keeping, and mapping/surveying, and public contact Work with other city departments, as directed Performs other work as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic tree types and the care and maintenance of trees, shrubs and landscaped areas Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in general maintenance of trees and landscaped areas Knowledge and skills in the use of hand tools and some power tools Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions Ability to understand and follow instructions written and orally Ability to learn and use new methods in the care and maintenance of trees, shrubs and flowers Ability to perform preventative and minor maintenance on landscaping equipment Ability to understand MSDS labels and ensure safe and proper chemical applications Ability to adapt and improve with increasing and changing job duties Ability to promote a good image for the City of McMinnville Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and members of the general public
