UTILITY MAINTENANCE HELPER
Job summary:

Under supervision responsible for safely performing all duties in the maintenance, repair, taps, and reconstruction of the wastewater collection system. Works around potentially hazardous and/or flammable substances.

Essential Job Functions:

Will be responsible for keeping facility clean during shift, mows edges, operates weed eater, sweeps and picks up debris at plant and main office

Shovels and loads sludge at drying beds

May answer telephone for trouble calls and dispatch calls to tapping crew by phone or two-way radio as needed

Understands and follows written job instructions; uses good judgment to work safely and uses equipment properly

Lifts and carries up to 100 pounds; pulls and pushes, or drags up to 150 pounds of equipment

Climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, twists, and stoops for extended periods of time while monitoring, recording, or participating in maintenance

Works in confined spaces or areas that will require using S.C.B.A. (self-contained breathing apparatus) with no facial hair in contact

Training of proper use of facial and seal of mask will be provided, if applicable

Works indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather

Some exposure to mechanical, electrical odors and dust hazards using proper safety precautions.

May be required to work overtime

Other Job Functions:

May be required to operate riding mower, backhoe font-end loader, dump truck, or other motor driven vehicles.

May be subjected to after-hours call-out for emergency situations.

Will be required to clean drying bed manually with equipment.

Must possess the ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions, the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

The ability to communicate effectively with others

The ability to prioritize workload

The ability to work rotating work schedules and nights if needed

May be required to assist other departments as needed

Pre-employment physical, drug and alcohol tests required

Required Education, Degrees, Certificates, and/or

Licenses:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record, class B, CDL preferred

Mechanical background, knowledge of pumps and motor repairs and operations

one year of heavy equipment experience preferred.

Must be 18 years or older
